Automotive Mechanic / Technician – Internal (First Recruitment)

Auto Montreal, a recognized car dealership based in Lachine, Quebec, with over ten years of experience serving customers across Canada, is transitioning from an outsourcing model to an in-house team of mechanics. We are recruiting our first Mechanic / Technician to inspect inventory and prepare vehicles as needed. Profile sought: self-sufficient professional, able to manage their time without constant supervision and thrive in a young and dynamic team.

Responsibilities

  • Perform thorough inspections of incoming inventory and identify safety, mechanical, and aesthetic issues.
  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain mechanical, electrical, and safety systems.
  • Carry out routine maintenance (oil changes, brakes, tire rotations, fluid checks, battery tests, etc.).
  • Prepare vehicles for sale or delivery (minor repairs, refurbishment, safety checks, road tests, and documentation).
  • Keep accurate records and update vehicle status in the inventory system.
  • Manage one's time and work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines; keep the workshop organized and safe; maintain tools and workspace.
  • Collaborate with sales and service teams to ensure timely preparation and delivery.
  • Provide feedback on processes and equipment needs to support the transition to internal operations; participate in ongoing training.
  • Stay current with manufacturer service bulletins and best practices.

Areas of diagnosis and repair

  • Engine diagnosis and repair (gasoline)
  • Diagnosis and repair of anti-pollution systems
  • Diagnosis and repair of hybrid or electric vehicles
  • Diagnosis and repair of air conditioning/heating systems
  • Diagnosis and repair of fuel injection systems
  • Electrical and electronic diagnosis and repair
  • ECM / PCM / ECU programming
  • Suspension and steering repair
  • Brake system repair (hydraulic)

Skills and Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of practical experience in auto repair; auto trade school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Good knowledge of automotive systems (engine, transmission, brakes, electrical, suspension).
  • Ability to work independently, manage time, and deliver high-quality work without supervision.
  • Attention to detail, safety consciousness, and dependability.
  • Valid driver's license and clean criminal record.
  • Proficiency with manual and diagnostic tools; ability to read repair manuals and diagrams.
  • Excellent communication skills and customer focus; team player.
  • Proficiency in French required; English is an asset.
